LPGA announces plans for a fantastic finish...
While the NCAA debates (and debates, and debates) a playoff system for their Div 1A football programs, the LPGA has stepped up with their latest announcement of a $1,000,000 playoff beginning next season.
From AP: Commissioner Ty Votaw on Tuesday unveiled the "LPGA Playoffs at The ADT," the first time a golf tour has had a year-end playoff system comparable to other sports.
The '06 season will be split into two parts, with players earning points toward making the 32-player field at the ADT Championship at Trump International, which previously served as a Tour Championship.
Fifteen players from each half of the season and two wild cards will advance to the LPGA Playoffs. After 54 holes of stroke play, the top two golfers will meet in an 18-hole showdown for $1 million (?810,000), nearly double the richest payoff in U.S. women's golf.
Things are looking up for the LPGA as they trump the PGA in making a progressive decision, while the men's side continues to contemplate schedule changes (and less events). The LPGA also unveiled its new marketing initiative — These Girls Rock (click for more info)— designed to promote the players' great performances and personalities.
As always, stay tuned...
