Why should you care about golf's growth in Asia?

Michelle Wie Nike

Why should any of us care about the growth of golf in Asian countries?

The popularity and continued growth of golf among the world's most populated region (60% of the world's population) will not only assist in the growth and popularity of the PGA and LPGA tours, but will also mean exponential growth for golf manufacturers.

More revenue for the likes of Callaway and TaylorMade will mean increased research and development (i.e. new technology and more innovation) and most likely a decrease or at least stabilization of retail pricing.

While other professional sports struggle to find a way to become relevant in the Asian markets (NFL, NBA and MLB games in Japan), golf has slowly become part of the daily sports landscape in Asia.

Asia carved out a reputation as the world’s new golfing hotspot this year with a string of high-profile tournaments attended by the sport’s biggest names. The region hosted no fewer than 10 European-sanctioned events — double the number in 2004 — with the Asian Tour enjoying another season of stellar growth. - Daily Times Pakistan

For sure. The countries of the Orient have shown some great golfing enthusiasm for years, not only in equipment and players, but courses as well. It's amazing. They're really creating loads of cash for the market.

It sure will make the tour on TV a lot more interesting to watch. I hadn’t given much though to the things you pointed out but your points are valid.
