Sex Sells... but should it have to?

What is it with the people that market women golfers and their tired obsession with swimsuits?
Yes, I'll admit that I pay attention to LPGA golf in part because of some of the cuties, but I'm just as interested in how good these women are on the course.
I understand that sex sells, and I even applauded the LPGA's marketing campaign to promote the personalities, charisma, and good looks of some of its' members. But swimsuits in the context of an athletic competition?
First is was Natalie Gulbis, then it was Sophie Sandolo, now it's the ladies from a show that isn't even on the air until February (The Golf Channel's Big Break V).
Forget the discussion about "objectifying women". I'm too guilty of it to go there...
My beef is with the marketers whose view is obviously, "Put the chicks in bathing suits and the pea brained men will pay attention". While that may be appropriate if you are promoting girlie mags, chicken wing restaurants, and silky lingerie, it shouldn't be for promoting "supposed" world class athletes.
My question for those "promoters" is this.... How are you helping your golf related client/product/show by going to the lowest common denominator to get attention? You are overshadowing all of the talent and hard work these women represent and place an unreasonable amount of credibility in how good their tits look. Remember the incessant Golf Channel promos that showed Danielle Amiee and her implant enhanced red top?
Yes, sex sells... but if you are a golf network that needs to show women in bathing suits to get ratings for a golf competition reality series, maybe you should be coming up with different programming.
By the way, I know TGC is working on a reality series featuring John Daly... here's to hoping they don't do a JD calendar of any kind.

I dunno. I might buy a John Daly Calendar "John's 12 Greatest Walkoffs" or something. Show him hitting the moving ball on that one green, show him trying to hit several times out of the rocks near the 18th at Bay Hill this year, that sort of stuff. ;-)

Even with a dozen nice looking women in swimsuits and some of the most beautiful golf scenary in the world, I'm sure that The Golf Channel will find a way to make The Big Break V one of the most dull programs on TV. Big Break IV, was absolutely unwatchable.
