Another Win for Tiger?

The boys over at ELEPHONKEY have scooped me on the results of Tiger's stock car adventure, so it is only fair that I send you there for the post and a cool photo of Tiger in a Nike TW Branded NASCAR style jumpsuit.

Golf Punk Issue #17 ... Bring on the Bunker Babes

bunker_babe_april.jpg

With every new issue of Golf Punk Magazine you've got tips, reviews, commentary, and i'm sure a piece about how the Euros will win this year's Ryder Cup, but more important than any of that is another "Bunker Babe" spread...

Let's make sure we have our priorities straight now... The Ryder Cup is important and everything, but Golfin' Babes in Swimsuits takes the cake every time.

Find GolfPunk at your favorite news stand, or visit them online:

Big heads, double drivers, and shifting weights...

Callaway FT-3 and TaylorMade r7

USA Today points out that Sam Snead used the same $3.25 Wilson driver from 1938 to 1970 (en route to 3 Masters Championships in 1949, '52, '54), while Phil Mickelson took an entirely different route in using two drivers in the same event.

Huge drivers with various weight shifting technologies are here to stay, so you might as well do your research and join the bandwagon.

After all, you still may not be able to buy a good swing, but you sure can pay for better results off the tee. How you pitch and putt is still up to you.

Tiger Woods: Is NASCAR Next?

Following the likes of multi-sport superstars Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders, Tiger Woods has agreed to compete in a Charity Kiwi Stock Car Race as a favor to friend and caddy Steve Williams.

Yes, this is the same type of race that Steve Williams severely gashed his left hand (to the bone) a year or so ago.

"I've done other things. I've thrown a baseball a few times and thrown a couple of coins here and there," Woods said. "This is a bit more physical. (I will do) whatever the race is and hopefully I will win it. (Bumping) is part of the deal. They knock me off and I will knock them off, it is about having fun."

Maybe Tiger should follow the lead of fellow golfer Rocco Mediate (poker) and take on less hazardous endeavors away from the course.

Dokoda Dowd wants to spread the word...

dakoda_dowd.jpg

Think Morgan Pressel and Michelle Wie have moxie? You ain't seen nothing compared to 13-year-old Dokoda Dowd.

This young lady isn't just another freaky phenom who gets a publicity driven sponsor's exemption to play in an LPGA event. She's a very talented golfer (for her age) who wanted more than anything to get to play in a pro event before her mother (who is terminally ill) passes away. She is seeking publicity, but she wants to use the stage to spread the word about early detection of cancer in women.

This may be the best sponsor's exemption ever put to use.

"She's got talent,'' says Annika Sorenstam, one of Dakoda's idols and the women's top-ranked player who met her earlier this month and watched her swing. "She can really hit the ball. She's got a great head on her shoulders. She's really strong and her attitude is really something great.''

SOD: Who is Megan Heckeroth?

megan_heckeroth.jpg

I don't know Megan, but I do know she visited the Lounge and even left a comment recently.

From what I've been able to find online, Megan is an aspiring golfer working her way to the LPGA. She is currently playing on the futures tour, and she has a pretty cool website (and associated blog) complete with video and other goodies.

Why the mention here? As far as I know, Megan is the first pro golfer to visit the Lounge, and for that she deserves the props.

We wish Megan good luck and implore our readers to visit her site. I've added her to the blogroll (Club Megan) and the pro golfer website listing (Megan Heckroth).

Yes, that's right, two listings... a Bogey Lounge first... See, it pays to leave comments at the Lounge (the green eyes didn't hurt either).

One thing's for sure... When Megan makes the big time, she'll be ready to capitalize on the marketing front with a web presence like this. You go Megan!

Las Vegas Golf - High-Stakes Hustlers

vegas_golf.jpg

I've played many a Las Vegas course, and I've heard caddies tell tales of celebrities and high-rollers playing for $10,000+ a hole... I never believed it.

Then I read this article in Travel & Leisure Golf and realized that while I'm sweating a $25 nassau, there's someone paying off six-figure wagers at a 19th hole in the desert.

Another interesting fact from the article is that it's not necessarily the best golfers that wager the most. These guys could be playing for and winning $100,000 bets while shooting in the 90's... Neat stuff.

Consumer Reports - Golf Ball "Categories are murky"

golfball_cutaway.gif

Nothing too groundbreaking from the upcoming Consumer Reports golf ball article... Other than every ball regardless of price point traveled virtually the same distance.

Something interesting, however, was the fact that the first golf balls were packed with boiled chicken. Can that possibly be true?

You know what they say, "You can't make birdies out of chicken skin"... sorry, I couldn't resist.

TDS: 2006 Masters Recaps and Roundups

Lovable Winner Suits Phil Just Fine
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Cubs finally won a World Series and lost that mystique? That's the same scenario playing out for Phil... From lovable loser to great expectations in just over two years.

A "Spazed" Moment for Tiger
In his post round press session, Tiger said he putted like a "spaz"... It's interesting how that was conveniently edited by the media. This is not a big deal to me, but I'm not a good gauge for such matters.

Masters Ratings Down
Sure it wasn't the most exciting Masters ever, but why does the viewing public need Tiger to be in the hunt for them to tune in? Final-round ratings for CBS' coverage of Mickelson's second green jacket victory Sunday were down 13 percent from last year, when Woods beat Chris DiMarco in a one-hole playoff to win his fourth Masters.

Nike Irons #1 at Masters Again?
Quality and innovation or pure marketing muscle? When Nike's involved, I tend to think it's the latter. Regardless of why, Nike Golf led The Masters field iron count for the second year in a row, according to the Darrell Survey.

2006 Masters: My picks 1-2-3

It's Sunday and the final round pairings are almost set... As I write this, Mickelson and Clark are co-leaders at -5...

My picks for 1-2-3 are as follows...

1. P. Mickelson
2. R. Mediate
3. T. Clark

However, Tiger (at -2) has the field right where he wants them and will probably go out and start the 4th round going -4 on the first five holes to take the lead...

What are your 1-2-3 picks? Click on comments and give us your picks (up until 2pm Eastern)... anyone who gets all three positions will get a "Way to go" from the Lounge and maybe I'll even come up with a real prize of some sort.

2006 Masters: These are the days!

What a day! Masters golf on TV from 8am (USA network extended coverage) until the end of the third round, and then CBS coverage from 2:30pm until the end...

It's shaping into what could be a fantastic finish... Sit back, relax, and enjoy what the golf gods have blessed us with.

By the way, I'm rooting for Tim Clark, Rocco Mediate, and Darren Clarke... any of those guys winning would make for a great story... and they all seem like real good guys.

Watching Rocco in interviews yesterday, you would have thought he missed the cut and was just on-air giving commentary about the rest of the field. You gotta love a guys who doesn't take himself so seriously.

Enjoy the day!

Phil Mickelson puts two drivers into play...

Mickelson Uses two (2) drivers

There are times when I am trying out or reviewing a new driver during a round of golf and happen to carry two drivers. As can be expected, my buddies (and I use that term loosely), always give me a hard time about it.

Now I see that Phil Mickelson did just that over the weekend and plans on doing it at Augusta next weekend.

Are we really going to get that specialized? And if so, why not just get everyone playing an adjustable driver and allow them to change the settings between holes.

For now, I'll enjoy the new era of acceptance for people who carry mutliple versions of the same club... Who knew I was such a pioneer?

It may be Masters Week, but today is Opening Day!

There's no doubt that in just a few years (six to be exact), I have become totaly obsessed with golf. Golf takes up a ton of my time and even a ton of my idle thoughts.

However, while it may be Masters Week, today also happens to be baseball's Opening Day, and that will always top the leaderboard of my sporting interest.

So, if you live in a Major League town that has a home opener today, grab the kids and get to the ballgame, or call in sick and go home and watch on television.

Tomorrow we can focus on the Masters... today it's Cracker Jack and hotdogs!

(In the interest of "somewhat" full disclosure: BogeyMan has worked for a Major League Baseball team for many years, and today marks his 15th Opening Day.)

Michelle Wie gets 2006 Masters Exemption!

Has Hootie Johnson lost his mind and given the go ahead that will allow teen sensation Michelle Wie to realize her dream of playing in this year's Masters?

Has Nike finally crossed the line and paid her way into a major marketing coup?

Or could it be that it's April Fools day?... Good morning fellow "Loungers"... consider yourselves warned.
