Golf Outings: Best Format?

In a few minutes I am heading off for my second corporate golf outing this weekend. I was wondering what format people prefer to play in these types of events. The first one was a best ball gross and net and the round was going to take 6 hours, but it was mercifully shortened by lightening.

Does anyone have a favorite format that they think keeps everything moving, allows bad golfers to participate, and is fun. Today is a shamble (pick the best drive and play your own ball in) but I still think this is going to take forever because the crappy players will take 9 shots even from a great drive. Oh well, the free stuff is great at these events but you pay the price on the course.
