Charging Ahead: USGA takes on first ever corporate sponsor

amex_green.gif

Here's a sports sponsorship "sell-out" that is good for the sport involved. The usually conservative USGA has taken on American Express as its first-ever corporate partner and for a sport that is declining in popularity the deal couldn't have come at a better time.

Using the advertising power of American Express, the USGA will get the much needed exposure it needs right now.

AMEX card holders will get to purchase tickets to sold out USGA events and the USGA will get the marketing muscle and associated revenues that can help it promote the game of golf.

"This is new ground for us," USGA executive director David Fay said. "We hope this is the beginning of a long relationship with Amex. For some of those elements of the USGA that don't get much publicity, we hope this relationship helps us. And we'll do our part to provide Amex with some benefits for its members."

A win win situation if you ask me.
