At first glance Callaway's FT-i looks like a winner
I got a chance to see the new Callaway FT-i driver today and at first glance I have to say that it certainly looks more "normal" than I thought it would.
Unlike the freakishly large head on the new Nike square driver, the Callaway version is less assuming - square but well rounded. I could see getting comfortable looking at this thing from address very quickly.
Nice dark head with the patented Callaway chevron aligning aid, this club is not the distracting departure I thought it would be.
The most notable thing about the club is not it's square shape, but its almost perfectly rectangular face. While this is a departure from tradition, it gives you the feeling that mishits would be forgiven by the uniform hitting area.
Until I get to hit the thing, I'll reserve my real opinion... but I wanted to report that from an aesthetic standpoint, this club is unique, confidence inspiring and won't get the strange looks I thought it would.
