Wie Watch: Things are heating up and not in the good way...

The Lounge has never had a problem with cat fights, but when the scuffle involves the first lady of golf (Annika Sorenstam) and the gonna-be-great Michelle Wie, we are inclined to look the other way.

This isn't the kind of controversy that raises interest and increases ratings... No, this is the kind of awkward situation that exposes the ugly side of professional sports - full of out-of-touch athletes parents, greedy agents and enabling sponsors.

Annika is no angel, but she has the results and history to back up what she says. Michelle Wie, on the other hand, continues to come off as an arrogant, immature and spoiled kid (which is expected of a 17-year-old).

The problem with Camp Wie isn't the star, it's the people who should be giving her guidance and helping her go from unpolished kid to adult professional. If her agent, father, mother, public relations handler and sponsors really cared about Michelle, they would hand her her ass after some the responses she has been giving the media regarding her latest controversy.

"I don't really feel like I have to apologize for anything. I just have to take care of my body and move forward and only think of positive things." - Michelle Wie

Michelle is not taking this stand and associated attitude on her own... she's getting it directly from the people who should be giving her guidance. They are probably thinking that once Michelle starts winning, everything will be ok. Unfortunately, that logic is flawed.

Players (both PGA and LPGA), fans and media have gone sour on the great story of the little girl that could go up against the boys. Sadly, it is becoming evident that regardless of whether she lives up to her potential or not - her recent attitude is making her irrelevant.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of you out there cheer against Michelle's success, and I can't blame you.

Not all 17 year-olds have to act like this--if Tiger Woods had pulled this act when he was Wie's age, I'm sure Earl would have been there to take him down a few rungs. However, there's nothing better than a little schadenfreude to bump the LPGA's tv ratings.
