What's with Danielle Amiee and her sudden popularity?
Remember the sassy Danielle Amiee from the Golf Channel's Big Break a few years back? She was easy on the eyes and not a bad golfer and recently a very hot topic (at least when it comes to BogeyLounge.)
In the last week, an old post I did on Danielle has been a most popular link on the site - accounting for over 600 unique visitors to that page per day. A check of the logs tells me it is from people Google-ing her name and finding the post.
My question is, Why are people searching for Danielle Amiee? I've checked a bunch of news sources to see if her name has come up - figuring maybe she got into some trouble or maybe had qualified for some event, but I found nothing.
Maybe the Big Break is running in reruns in another country? Oh well, if anyone has a clue, I'd love to know.

Tiger Woods adopts son to qualify for Father/Son Tourney?

Tired of not being able to compete in the Del Webb Father/Son Challenge, Tiger Woods has taken an adopted son in order to qualify.
Who says these post-season events are meaningless to the players?
They don't call it the silly season for nothing.
The Onion - Calling it "the best decision [he's] ever made," Tiger Woods adopted 11-year-old orphan Randy Gearhardt last week so he would qualify for the PGA Tour's annual Del Webb Father/Son Challenge. "I love my little Rodney [sic]—he has a good heart, and a much better short game than Vijay Singh's son," Woods said following the tandem's first-place finish in the tournament.

Fearing overthrow? Seize all Country Clubs...

Talk about crimes against humanity... Caracas Mayor Juan Barreto, an ally of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, ordered the seizure of two golf courses, extending a year-old government campaign aimed at taking over property it deems poorly utilized.
Poorly utilized? The Country Club golf course has 9,000 members and employs about 2,500 people, club President Fernando Zozaya said in an interview with Globovision television.
It's sad that I had little interest in the fate of Venezuela's upcoming election until the president starting shutting down golf clubs. Like my wife says, "Everyone has their cause"... smart woman.

Bubba Denied: Bill Clinton refused a walk-on tee time?

Next time you feel bad about not getting a tee time, think about this story and feel better.
Even his friendly ties with Australia's favorite son (Greg Norman) couldn't get former US President Bill Clinton a tee time at Medway Golf Club near Melbourne.
They claim it was because they had a tournament going on at the time, but Bogey Lounge has found out that the decision was made in order to protect the cart girls.
All kidding aside, how stupid do you have to be to not realize the benefits of having the former leader of the free world play at your club.

Strike a pebble, cause a spark, start a fire?
Next time a ranger yells at you for not fixing a divot or raking a bunker, tell him things could be worse and point him to this story.
Due to dry conditions in Arizona, golfers in the Scottsdale area have been starting fires by striking pebbles during a golf swing and causing sparks which result in full blown fires... really!

Marc O'Hair : A real son of a ...
I remember seeing this story a year or so ago on 60-minutes, and now I wish I hadn't...
It's the heartfelt tale of an overbearing father who treats his child like a business venture... No matter how you slice it, this is highly unacceptable. You read and wonder "can this guy be for real?"...
Thanks to Golf Grouch for the story (I haven't forgotten your sleeve of ProV's).

Jamil Qureshi "The Mind Magician" helps golfer to first win?
[TimesOnline.co.uk] Steve Webster has toiled long and hard to achieve his first victory on the European Tour, but it all came right yesterday when he took the Telecom Italian Open title with a closing 68 for a total of 270, 18 under par. He might have achieved it with no outside assistance, but having a bit of magic on his side did him no harm.

St Andrews snubs Jack Nicklaus

It's hard to believe, but the man who coined the phrase "If you want to be remembered, you have to win at St Andrews", was snubbed when a plan to bestow on the three-times Open winner the honorary citizen title was stopped after members of St Andrews Community Council failed to support the idea in sufficient numbers.
It was to have been an accolade that would mark the end of the career of arguably the world's greatest golfer. But an attempt to make Jack Nicklaus an honorary citizen of St Andrews has instead been transformed into an embarrassing snub.
The home of golf has delivered the shock rejection to the American legend just months ahead of what could be his final appearance over the world-famous Old Course at the Open Championship this summer.
Twice a winner of the prestigious claret jug over the Old Course, the man known as the Golden Bear has praised the significance the town has in the game and his life.
He has said: "St Andrews always has a special place in my heart." Another famous phrase coined by Nicklaus applauds the town's sporting heritage further still: "If you want to be remembered, you have to win at St Andrews."
Yet a plan to bestow on the three-times Open winner the honorary citizen title was stopped after members of St Andrews Community Council failed to support the idea in sufficient numbers.
Successful candidates for the award need the approval of a minimum of 16 votes and no more than four votes against in a secret ballot of all voting members of the community council.
However, the proposal attracted only 13 votes of support and four against.
The recommendation to honour Nicklaus was made by Keith McCartney, a former chairman of the community organisation, who said last night: "I am very disappointed that the proposal was unsuccessful. I believe that, as a consequence, we, as a community, have missed out on a unique opportunity to honour the world's greatest golfer in this, the home of golf."
Mr McCartney said that Nicklaus's participation at St Andrews in July could be his last appearance in the Open as he is now 65, and this year marks his final opportunity to be automatically exempt from qualification as a past winner. [TheHerald.co.uk]

HONMA Golf: $36,000 for a set of irons?

I was flipping through the latest copy of T&L Golf this morning and found this article on the HONMA Golf Company. You may not have heard of these guys and that's because you're probably not their target customer.
These are high-end (very high-end) clubs, made with precision (and sometimes Gold) and marketed to Asia's most prominent citizens. I know, it's like something out of a Richie Rich cartoon.
On this side of the ocean, pitcher Roger Clemens and singer Marc Anthony play HONMA with glowing reviews. And recently, even Donald Trump got in on the act (somehow gold clubs seem to fit the Trumpster perfectly).
Needless to say, BogeyMan will never play HONMA clubs, and even if I had the means, I wouldn't like my clubs "all blinged up". Not to mention that I get stressed when my stainless clubs get nicked up, could you imagine playing a shot with your 24k gold clubs out of dessert wasteland.
For now, I'll stick with my Mizuno's.
For laughs, check out the story and the company's U.S. site:

7-year-old competes in New Zealand National Amateur Championship?
Competitive golfers are getting younger every year, but this is stretching the point. During the recent New Zealand women's national amateur championship, a 7-year-old was in a field that also included players 10, 11, 13 and 14.
The youngest, Lydia Ko, was seen skipping down the fairways as she finished just over par off her 14 handicap.
Lydia Ko, according to the website which contains the handicaps of every club member in New Zealand, played her first round of golf on December 23 - less than three months ago.

Unplayable lie... body found on course identified
Human remains found buried under the fairway of a Georgia golf course were identified Wednesday as those of a woman missing since July 2003, authorities said.
Sad story, but if your going to dump a body on a golf course, please do it in the rough... Thanks to Golf Blogger for tipping us on this one...

Tiger Woods gives caddie Ford GT prize
Looks like caddie Steve Williams (noted race car enthusiast), will be sporting around New Zealand in a new Ford GT, courtesy of his boss.

My boss once gave me a $50 gift card to Starbucks (so that it would speed the process up when I went to get him coffee.)
From the St. Pete Times: The Ford GT sports car Woods won for his victory is worth $140,000, but you won't see him driving it. Because Woods has an endorsement deal with Buick, he made a point all week to be careful about saying anything about Ford products. He did acknowledge afterward, however, that his caddie, Steve Williams , would be getting the keys to the car.
